Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Jazmine, who is Philadelphia native is a native of Philadelphia, and was raised in the city. Pam, her mother was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. In the year she turned 5 old, her father landed a position as a curator of the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the landmark historical building. In 2005, a Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduate, she is a major in vocal performance. Sullivan started singing as a contralto in the children's choir. She then joined a few years later in the adult choir. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was not extensive at first "I did solos in church and someone wanted me to join an evangelical label when I was 11 years old, but I wasn't at the point of doing that," she recalls. "Then McDonald's offered a competition for kids from cities. This competition provided me with an opportunity to perform What God Allows on It's Showtime Apollo. My fans were very accommodating." She was just 13 when she sang along with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age fifteen. When she was 15 the label signed her to Jive Records. She recorded an entire album in Jive Records and then it wasn't released. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott she produced several tracks from her debut, which included the hit single "Backstabbers" - produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
